  17. In the default version of web2c-6.1,
  18. TFM files are sought in the directory 
  19. .../texmf/fonts//tfm .
  20. The // in the middle of the directory name
  21. seems to cause problems,
  22. since it triggers the subdirectory-searching mechanism
  23. at an inappropriate point.

  25. I found that eliminating all "internal" //'s in kpathsea/paths.h
  26. (or at the appropriate places in paths.h.in)
  27. solved the problem for me on my Linux box.
